SWR to Organise ARD Booth at CAR+SOUND
The SWR will be organising the ARD booth at the CAR+SOUND trade fair in Friedrichshafen in 2010. The main topic will be ARD’s traffic services. Visitors will be able to take a behind-the-scenes look at SWR’s traffic reporting services with the help of a specially designed workstation and find out, for example, how an actual phone call placed by a traffic jam reporter is turned into a traffic announcement step by step, and then transmitted to all navigation systems within the coverage area.Visitors will be able to gain insights into the future of traffic information services at various info columns. For instance, a great variety of travel and traffic information, ranging from car park space availability and traffic jams, right on up to departure times at nearby airports, can be conveniently accessed and experienced by means of TPEG technology.“Elchradio”, a program offered by SWR3, has been available since the end of 2009 for mobile use of ARD’s traffic services via cell phone or smartphone. Not only does this multi-platform application allow users to listen to the radio, they are also provided with easy access to up-to-date information in text and mp3 formats. Depending upon the user’s geographic location, traffic information for motorways in the surrounding areas is provided dynamically with continuous updates. This information is transmitted directly from the SWR traffic centre to mobile terminal devices, and expands SWR’s traffic services with an important function for pre and post-trip advisories for travel by car. Visitors will have the opportunity of testing the application at a media column at the ARD booth. In addition to interesting impressions, those who visit the ARD booth at CAR+SOUND will be able to take home an attractive memento. “Speed trap photos” of the whole family will be taken in a classic Mercedes convertible. Actual TPEG information will be displayed at a touch-screen on the passenger side for technical enthusiasts, and insights into future possibilities for traffic information services will be provided.
